The Porsche 550 was a racing sports car produced by Porsche from 1953 until 1956 in Stuttgard Germany with a total of 90 units being built. A total of 43 units were never raced but purchased as private sports cars. They could be ordered as either a coupe or a spyder.
Perhaps the most famous 550 was James Deans “little bastard”, number 55 of 90, which James Dean fatally crashed just 7 days after purchasing it on 30th Sept 1955.
Our recreation is an accurate replica built by New Zealand race driver and engineer, Graeme McRae, who built 38 units.
